GPS (Global Positioning System) - Description

GPS is a worldwide radio-navigation system which uses a network 24 satellites, and was developed by the US Department of Defense. Anyone with a commonly available GPS receiver can calculate his or her exact location on Earth. GPS has been very useful in air, land, and sea navigation, as well as in mapping, surveying, and numerous other operations where precise positioning is necessary.
